Jennifer – Trifecta

***

It was Jennifer’s birthday.
Mom made her wear that shiny blue dress she hated.
She blew out the candles and Mom collapsed.
“An aneurism,” The doctor said.
I take it back she thought,

That wasn’t what I meant.

This time the Trifecta editors want 33 words in addition to and preceding the following:

“That wasn’t what I meant.”

Go take a look at the Trifecta Writing Challenge.

  1. Oh. NO!
we all wish for those words , those moments we wish we hadn’t thought or said it, whatever “it” is.

but a great take on the prompt.

    1. Thanks. “That wasn’t what I meant” conjures up images, for me, of “wanting a do-over” or “regrets”. This is sort of an extreme example of that.

  2. Oh dear! The phrase ‘Be careful what you wish for’ never made more sense! Love your take on the prompt!

  3. Whoa! So you went there. I happen to know some people who have had that thought, though maybe they didn’t use a birthday wish on it. Nicely played.

    1. Thanks for the compliment and congratulations on the your “resilience” win. I laughed out loud at your “tyrant” post this week.

  4. Our minds went to the same morbid place. But, I love how you left her wish as something the reader gets to assume rather than something that was openly stated.
