“It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.”
I climbed the mountain – achieved my goal.
Or so you would believe.
But, it’s never that easy, is it?
The mountain is also metaphor.
For me:
The mountain wasn’t the goal.
It never was.
Not in itself.
The mountain was merely:
a way station,
a mile marker,
a signpost,
a divide,
on the way to something else.
This is great, it made me think. Especially the last line
Excellent

There is so much depth (or perhaps I should say height?) and wisdom in this poem. There is so much truth, for aren’t we always climbing mountains on our way to something else? Your poem made me smile, nod my head and say, “Amen,” (so let it be).
God bless you,
Cheryl

Very eloquently put, and so very true. There are very few absolute endpoints.
