Daily Prompt: Ready, Set, Done

 Our free-write is back by popular demand: today, write about anything — but you must write for exactly ten minutes, no more, no less.

 Spoiler Alert – This is not a happy post – but it is fiction. Ten minutes turned out to be too short a time to resolve this conflict, or even explain it. Sorry.

Richard Frances William Halverson III placed the barrel of the 38 snub nosed revolver next to his head closed his eyes and pulled the trigger


Shit, what else could go wrong?

Damn it, he dropped the barrel and shook the pistol violently. The gun shop attendant was now moving quickly back to where Ricky stood. He pointed the weapon at the middle-aged man with the mutton chops and green khaki t-shirt that read,  “I’ll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands”

“Don’t come any closer Arthur.” Ricky said, remembering the name from the man’s badge.

“Double Barrel Fire Arms
My name is Arthur, I’m here to help”

Arthur froze and Ricky quickly put the barrel up to his own head again.

Click, click, click, click…

He looked back at Arthur, “Help me, please.” He whispered.

Arthur began walking slowly, cautiously towards the young man in crisis. He seemed to be trying to say something. His mouth was moving, but all Arthur could hear was the sharp,

Click, click, click,

as Ricky pulled the trigger over and over again.

Arthur reached out and gently disarmed him at the same time Gene, who generally works the door, wrapped his arms around Ricky in a bear hug from behind and lifted him off his feet.
