Daily Prompt: Fret

Daily Prompt: Fret

Danny clutched the case and pushed into the shop. Mendoza was perched on a stool at the counter caressing a Stratocaster.

“I been ‘specting you Danny, heard what happened.”

Danny set the case on the counter and popped it open. Inside was cradled his ’56 gold face Les Paul. The finish was dinged bad and the neck was bowed.

“Can you fix it?”

“I can straighten the neck and re-fret the fingerboard. The finish is probly done though. She threw it out in the rain, huh?”

“After she swung it at me; I don’t blame her, I prolly deserved it.”

OLWG #44 – The Way That Gentlemen Behave

Written for OLWG #44

Watson twisted the cork from the bottle and studied the Minister over the top of his half moons. He announced, “That’s bullshit Garner, and you know it. The situation is not black or white. We shouldn’t discuss right and wrong; we must define how far we -are -willing -to -go.” He splashed a measure of brown whisky in a glass and shoved it towards his colleague.

He searched for another glass, but wound up having to spill a batch of pencils from their customary ceramic mug. He filled it half way.

“Cheers.” he raised his mug to begin the negotiation.

OLWG presented the prompts with a drabble so I elected to respond in kind:

This week, the prompts were:

  1. black or white
  2. use this
  3. bullshit

You have 25 minutes but if it takes longer – just don’t tell anyone.

OLWG #36 – Fear of Flying

A drabble written for OLWG #36

I looked up from my reading when I heard, “Now boarding flight 1583 to Milwaukee through Gate 27A. All ticketed passengers on flight 1583 to Milwaukee should proceed immediately to Gate 27A.” I closed my book on my index finger, shouldered my backpack and moved to the back of the line for boarding

This is the third time I have tried to go to Milwaukee. I never made it the first two times but my therapist tells me I have to confront my fears. She says that I need to charge right at them. Face ‘em like a man.

My hands shaking, I shuffle forward with the rest of them.

There were three prompts this week – I got two of them:

  1. Milwaukee
  2. right at them
  3. the high cost of loving

Don’t think! Write!

A Drabble for the Daily

Luc had one arm around the girl; his free hand clutched the machine pistol taken from the sentry. The magazine was full; the safety off.

“Give it up, Luc!” urged the girl, “We’ll never beat Doctor Regulus, not here, not now.”

“I’ll never quit, Missy, understand? If we don’t continue, if we don’t end this now, all the others will have died in vain.”

“Oh, Luc; you’re so brave and manly!”

Missy swooned and Luc still held her in his arms when he confronted Regulus in the laboratory.

“Drop the detonator, Doctor! It’s over.”

“I’ll decide when it’s over, Luc.”
