Daily Prompt; Maybe

Daily Prompt; Maybe

“Is this safe?”
“Maybe.”

##

“Steven’s parents have invited me to go camping in Yosemite with them!”
That was all the boy said then he stopped talking to simply stare at me expectantly. I stared back.
Finally he broke, “So, can I go?”
I cleared my throat and tried to look authoritative, “Maybe, you should ask your mother.”

##

“So whaddya say Mom? Can I invite Andi, Darla, and Liz for a sleepover on Friday?”
“Maybe that’s not such a good idea, Dennis.”

##

“Maybe I don’t want a new vacuum cleaner for Christmas. Maybe I want something else. Maybe I want something for me. A massage or a day at the spa, or maybe something pretty? Do you ever think about things like that? Maybe you should.” She tossed a pillow and a thin blanket down the stairs before she stalked back into the bedroom.
I shrugged, picked up the bedding and shuffled towards the couch. Maybe she was right.

##

“So Mel, I gotta ask. Is this effort going to be enough to push the team to the top of the standings?”
“Maybe so. It depends on how the Eels do against the Buffalo in tonight’s game.”

##

“Did you remember to mail that letter for me?”
“Sure I did… Maybe… uhm, no… sorry”

##

She leaned over and gave me a kiss, “I’m so excited about today,” she said. “I can hardly wait.”
I looked at her blankly and struggled with myself.
“You do remember what today is, don’t you?”
She could be so stern.
“Uh, maybe.”

I got new lighting in the kitchen for Valentine’s Day. Not what I was expecting for our first VD as a married couple, but his twinkling ironic smile when he showed them to me (completely installed, mind you) gave him a pass. Chocolate and flowers are fine, but so is the “See? I know I’m a big dumb dork!” gesture.

  1. Ahem, raises hand . . . I’ve been given music-related stuff that my husband enjoys. 🙂 I know it’s done out of love, though, so I’ve accepted the cluelessness. On another note, these vignettes don’t even have to be fiction (or, maybe I should say they are realistic fiction rather than fantastical stuff); I really enjoyed these, T.N. This is the second funny or uplifting thing I’ve read today, and I must say, my cynicism is evaporating (yay)!

  2. Fantastic writing! But I am also here at this area’ place’ I wasn’t certain how else to contact you. I and many, many others here via WordPress are taking some time and asking if you and others would take part in project Peace.

We have 140 contributions to date, and I am trying again to rope in as many contributors to the Poets for Peace challenge (in place until this the end of August). The many voices in response
to this have been fantastic, and I’d love you to add yours (again, if applicable) if you can. Feel free to use an existing piece of writing or a new one asking for peace and/or about the troubled
    times in which we live.

If you are interested, please leave your poem in the comments section of Neha’s blog and it will be added.
