Daily Prompt: In Transit

Daily Prompt: In Transit

Train stations, airport terminals, subway stops: soulless spaces full of distracted, stressed zombies, or magical sets for fleeting, interlocking human stories?

Aéroport de Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle 1986
The London flight is delayed.
We all wait, seated on the floor in one of the satellites.

A young French family sits by the window,

Dad smoking Gauloises, leans against the glass
Mom idly turns the pages of a magazine on her lap
Excited young son, about 4 years old, visits with his fellow passengers and paces in circles on the carpet

Indicatif Roissy

The boy perks up and pays attention,
Further delays for the London flight are announced
Shoulders slump, “merde” he shouts
Dad exhales blue smoke and smiles at his boy
Mom turns red, sets her magazine aside, and gathers her young man in for a hug.
