“Do you hear that?”
“What? I don’t hear anything.”
“Really?” She was wide eyed, incredulous, “That low pitched hum?”
“Oh that. That’s just background noise. It’s the light bulbs, watch this.”
I flicked the switch. Darkness and silence descended, with equal measure.

Those first two lines sound like a conversation I’ve had many times. 🙂 I also love the leading feeling of the last line.
